There are two separate firmware packages in your transmitter: One to run the RF module (On the Taranis that package is called the XJT firmware) and one that takes care of everything else such as switch settings, gimbal output, dual rates, etc. On the Taranis, that one is OpenTX. Both versions can be upgraded when needed. When a new version of OpenTX is released, you are given the option of upgrading this software through OpenTX Companion or by copying the new firmware.bin file to the FIRMWARES folder on your SD card and upgrading through the TX’s bootloader mode. Upgrading the XJT firmware from FrSky requires an easily obtained cable. Because of the constantly evolving nature of OpenTX, you will likely update OpenTX much more often than the XJT firmware. DO NOT confuse upgrading the firmware with downloading and uploading the EEPROM file that contains your individual model settings.
