Stick Mode

Radios traditionally were bought pre-configured for mode 1 or mode 2, with mode 2 being typical for USA flyers with the throttle and rudder on the left stick and aileron and elevator on the right stick. Other regions of the … Continue reading

Sticks

The four gimbal stick axes (Rud, Ele, Thr, Ail) which can independently be assigned: Weighting (gain/rate), Exponential (or Custom Curves), and flight modes. Ultimately, these are assigned to output channels in the Mixer menu.

Sticky

A function used in Logical Switches that acts as a toggle. Two fields labelled V1 and V2 follow the function statement to define the on switch and the off switch.  For example if ‘SH↓’ is selected from the drop down choice … Continue reading

Sticky Throttle

A logic set up on the transmitter that requires the throttle to be at idle AND a designated switch in a permissive condition to activate the throttle to the aircraft.  The throttle subsequently remains active regardless of throttle position until the switch is placed in … Continue reading

STM32 BOOTLOADER

As far as we’re concerned, the bootloader is a small program that “wakes up” the STM (STMicroelectronics) chip in the TX when chip detects that the TX is plugged into a USB port with the TX off. After that, OpenTX … Continue reading

Subtrim mode

Specifies whether curve is symmetrical or asymmetrical about the servo travel neutral point. Options: ^ – symmetrical, = – asymmetrical (no clipping).

SVN

Subversion Number, a record keeping process for source code used in software development to keep track of multiple code revisions over time.

Switch Warning

Defines whether the radio warns of switches not in predefined positions on power on/model change. Default switch positions expected in a new model are all forward/down.   Switch position requirements for existing models are configured in Model Set Up and warnings may be turned off … Continue reading

SWR

Standing Wave Ratio is used as an efficiency measure for transmitting radio signals. Lower numbers are better with a 1:1 ratio being theoretical perfection of antenna performance. Best not to get hung up on this unless you’re a technical expert.

System Firmware

One of two major programming applications in your transmitter. System firmware reads and stores data that you put into your transmitter, and uses that data to tell the other programming application, the transmitter firmware, what to send to the receiver.
